Lake Shore Sail Club has maintained a Coast Guard approved race course located NE of Gaukler Point in Lake St. Clair for forty years. Over those years, the marks and course configurations have changed a number of times. The current course consists of seven 8" diameter PVC pylons arranged in a 2.60 nm mile diameter hexagon.

Lake Shore Sail Club sponsors the very popular Wednesday Spring and Summer Sunset Series Races, which are open to all area sailors. These two six-race series regularly attract a large number of the areas most avid racing skippers. Weekly results are announced after each race on the lake front at Jefferson Beach Marina, where LSSC's "world famous" hot dog chefs serve up all-you-can-eat hot dogs after each race. Series awards are presented during a FREE pizza and beer party after the Summer Series at the Harper Woods Community Center.

Our members only race program include a Sunday Series and Special Club races. There are four regular Sunday races and six special races; the Thomas Cup and Commodore's Cup long distance races, the Petticoat, Juniors, Jack & Jill, and Single-handed races. A very popular part of our race program is the after-race hot dog roasts and awards parties held at Jefferson Beach Marina. These are held after each race and are open to all members.

Lake Shore Sail Club also sponsors the annual Inter-Club Team Championship Race. Each of the twenty-eight member DRYA clubs is invited to enter four boats representing their club to compete as a team for this prestigious trophy and area bragging rights.

Members of Lake Shore Sail Club are eligible for reduced rates for the Spring and Summer Sunset racing series.

Our members are also involved in the DRYA race program as not only participants in the races, but as race officers serving on the race committee for each race and as members of the DRYA Executive Committee. Our members have also developed the scoring program used by the DRYA for over twenty years to score their races.

Lake Shore Sail Club has pioneered the development of the "Multi-Sail Concept" where credit is given if a boat races without the use of its spinnaker. This allows for better class splits and flexibility of sail usage to account for both crew and weather variations.
