The John McCartney Memorial Trophy |
John McCartney is the father of our Wednesday Night Sunset Series. It was this series that provided much of LSSC's initial recognition in the Detroit River Yacht-racing Association. When John passed away in 1979, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to accept an appropriate trophy recognizing John's contribution to the Lake Shore Sail Club Wednesday Night Sunset Series. |

The John McCartney Memorial Trophy is awarded to the LSSC member who has the best overall score for the Spring Sunset Series and the Summer Sunset Series combined. This score shall be calculated using the Cox-Sprague scoring system. The races used in dtermingng the member's qualifying position in each series, as set forth by the Race Committee shall be used to determine his Cox-Sprague score for this award. When a tie results, the member having the most firsts shall win; if a tie still remains, the most seconds, then thirds and so on shall determine the winner. A member must qualify his yacht in both series to be eligible for the John McCartney Memorial Trophy. A member may change fleets from one series to the next, but may not change fleets during a series. |
