Marge Rousseau Memorial Trophy

(Petticoat Reggatta)

In the spring of 1970, a unique race was born to Lake Shore Sail Club. It was the 'brainchild' of Phil Leo, then Rear Commodore. He approached Commodore Robert Rousseau with the idea of a race in which only the ladies could take the helm from the preparatory gun to the finish line. It was dubbed "The Petticoat Regatta" and what a success it has been. This race has always been 'blessed' with high winds and heavy seas. This, however, did not deter the stalwart women skippers and the challenge was met.

In 1992, the Rousseau family presented the Club with the Margaret Rousseau Memorial Trophy to be awarded each year to the overall winner of the Petticoat Regatta. Proudly accepting their special trophies, and humbly accepting their notoriety, the winners over the years have been:
